About
I work nights running network operations for a data center out in the high desert outside Reno, which means my schedule runs backwards from everyone I know and my best reading hours are the ones between 2 and 5 in the morning when nothing on the floor needs me. I got into board games about six years ago through a coworker, Marcus, who used to bring a travel set to break room downtime, and now I've got a biweekly group that works around my rotation more patiently than they should have to. On my nights off I take a cheap telescope out past the last streetlights, which is either a hobby or just an extension of staring at dashboards for a living, I haven't fully decided.
I run the overnight shift at a data center out past the edge of town, watching dashboards that mostly say nothing is wrong, which leaves a lot of quiet hours to fill. I fill them with books that make me work for it and games that reward paying attention, and I write about both here because I got tired of talking to an empty server floor about whether a rulebook was any good. No review copies, nothing sponsored, just what I actually read and played and what I actually thought.
Where I am: Reno, Nevada
Started this in 2026 mostly to have somewhere to put down the reviews I kept typing into my phone at 4am and never sending to anyone.
What's here
Book reviews, board game reviews, and personal essays. No schedule, no affiliate links, nothing sponsored. I write about a book or a game after I've actually finished it and have something to say, which is why the dates on here are irregular.
